Sparky by Jenny Offill

This is a story about a girl who wanted so much to keep a pet against her mother’s wishes that her mother made her look for one animal that didn’t require much care.  So the girl went on and found Sparky, that fit the bill.  Except that the story soon unfolds about how Sparky turned out not quite to be what the girl expects of a pet-keeping experience as she made the best effort to train Sparky.
