Joseph Had a Little Overcoat by Simms Taback

这本绘本是我起先开始对儿童绘本感性趣时，曾在一间书局举办的故事分享看过。我记得我对它的印象十分深刻，因为我立即把它加入我所要在亚马逊购买的书单里。这是一本关于一个非常节俭的人如何运用他的巧思和手来改造他的一件破旧的大衣。可能在这“坏了就丢”的现今，有些人会认为这人是吝啬的。

This is one of the first few children picture books that interests me so much at a single storytelling session that I made a note to purchase it when I next order from Amazon. This is a story about a prudent man who made the most out of an overcoat that he had, to the extent that some might consider him a stinge in this used-and-throw age.

通过洞口呈现方式,书里每隔一页可看到他用大衣用剩余的布改造了的服饰。儿童可以从中认识各种服饰，特别是一些在本地比较罕见人们穿的背心，吊裤带等。

Every other page is a surprise of what he made out of what was left of his overcoat that is delightfully revealed through a die-cut hole. Several types of garments or apparel accessories can be introduced to young children especially a few such as suspenders or vest which are uncommonly worn in these days locally.

除了可以让小孩认识不一样的服装，故事里多变化的场景,例如婚礼，合唱团练习，和他生病的情景等，给成人制造许多能和小孩讨论绘画和互动的机会。

Apart from the different types of garments, the wide range of settings such as a wedding, a men’s choir practice, even a scene when he was sick, in which Joseph appears with his new ‘upcycled’ projects provide many opportunities for picture talk with young children.

我也喜欢书里藏在绘画中的谚语，引用句和小句子。这些小小的细节让我和孩子有机会当个小侦探来探讨约瑟夫的日常生活。

I also enjoy reading the snippets of quotes, proverbs and little writings that appear in the letters, books or hung-up frames in the illustration. It gives my child a chance to pretend to be like a little spy peering into the life of Joseph…

在创意循环过程后，约瑟夫的自我发现，给这个故事带来一个具有启发性的结局。

这是一本能教导孩子只要用些创意，剩余当中也能做出最好的，从而带出节省的美德。

Absolutely liked the enlightening twist which Joseph discovered for himself at the end of his up-cycling effort. This is a must-go-to book to educate children about the importance making the best out of what is left and also the theme of using creativity and being prudent in life.
