This is a heartwarming story about a girl who could not bear to part with her old pair of shoes. As she was placing her new shoes that her mum bought for her at the door, she saw her old pair and it evoked lots of memories of the time spent with the shoes while wearing them. With tears welling up in her eyes, she went to her mum to ask if the old shoes would be thrown away. Seeing her in sadness, her mum promised to find a solution for her.

The plot and story idea is one which I can identify with when I was a kid. The sentimental value of an item intensifies when we spend time with (using) it . Like that favourite dress/bag /shoe that we wear over and over again or a soft toy that keeps us company through the night.

However, in this day and age when most affluent society have much in excess, will our children still treasure that few items that have served them well in their childhood and develop a sense of gratitude for the things that they have been provided for?

A good book to help children gain perspective of what they have, teaches them to cherish their belongings and not to despise things even though they are no longer new.

这本书的故事简单温馨，就是关于一个小女孩不舍得丢弃一双穿了很久又很旧的鞋。当她正在门口，把妈妈买给她的新鞋放好时，她看着她的旧鞋，脑子浮现了穿着新鞋和它一起度过的时光。想着，泪满眼眶，她跑到妈妈身边，问看妈妈会怎么处理旧鞋。妈妈看着她一副不舍得的样子，答应帮她找个能保留旧鞋的方法。

这个故事让我联想到小时对自己所拥有过，也非常珍惜的东西。一盒彩色笔，一副眼镜，一架计算机等。 至今，有些仍保留着，就因为它们曾伴我度过小时的一些难忘的岁月……

在现今富足的社会里，喜新厌旧似乎习已为长，不知道小孩们还懂得怜惜他们所拥有的，为自己所有的，无论新旧而感恩吗？

对于像故事里主人翁的小孩们，读了绘本后，可能会感同身受，心理情感得到认可。若阅读的小孩是属于比较容易释怀的，读了绘本后，他们是否能对身边虽然没有生命的东西产生另一种视角呢，更懂得爱惜保护好东西呢？
