Although this a very short book, I find that it is quite interesting that the author cum illustrator seems to use a rather old strategy of putting scary consequences into the story to teach kids (or scare them into) good behaviour. The delivery is also rather swift and happens within a couple of pages (as I’ve said, it is a short book) i.e Conveying to the kids the concept of consequence — If you do this , you get this.

My daughters could reason the consequences due to the bad behaviour and the older one actually commented that it is quite a scary book.

How much do you agree with using scary tactics to cultivate good behaviour? Do you know that many fairy tales in the past use quite scary story ideas too , such as children possibly being eaten up by witches, giants or being led away by strangers and never to return if they were greedy, naive or gullible? How effective are these stories to educate your children the right thing to do? Feel free to comment below to let me know your thoughts.

A short but valuable book perfect for those nights that you want to usher your young ones quickly to sleep and still want to cultivate some good values in them.
